Iraq’s President Braham Salih met French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian at his residence in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The growing ties between Iraq and France were discussed during the meeting and how best to develop these in all levels.
Salih and Le Drian stressed the need for further develop trade and economic relations with greater contributions from France to support Iraq in the fight against terror and in the area of humanitarian assistance.
Salih stressed that Iraq looks forward to strong support from the friends and allies to strengthen security and stability in the country as well as ensuring prosperity its people deserve.
He also highlighted the importance to maintain security and stability in the region, adding that Iraq works towards calming tensions here.
Iraq’s crucial role in the region should be brought back, Salih affirmed.
Le Drian highlighted his country’s desire to support security and stability in Iraq, haling Iraq’s efforts to defuse tensions in the region.
He added that restoring the central role of Iraq in the region is of great importance, stressing France’s eagerness to further develop economic and commercial cooperation with Iraq.
