Iraq, Turkey’s Presidents Underline Importance of Stability in the Region

Iraq’s President Barham Salih stressed on Wednesday, during his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the importance of strengthening the pillars of stability in the region and easing tensions.

The meeting was held in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly during which both discussed bilateral relations and means to strengthen it.

Salih stressed “The importance of stabilizing the pillars of stability in the region, easing tensions, supporting the path of dialogue and convergence in discussing outstanding issues, respecting the sovereignty of states and rejecting interference as well as the attacks and everything that would undermine confidence-building and threaten peace, in addition to the need for joint action to consolidate peace and security in the region and internationally.”

For his part, the Turkish president praised Iraq’s efforts to ease tensions in the region through dialogue, pointing to his country’s support for Iraq’s security and stability.
