The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, said “we are seeking to form a national majority government”, calling for dissolving the armed factions and handing over their weapons to the popular Mobilization Units.
Al-Sadr said in a statement on Thursday that “the world has witnessed the integrity of the elections. The people are looking forward to announcing the election results and forming the government quickly.”
He added, “We are seeking to form a national majority government, and we have two options: A government of national unity or a national opposition, and those who want to participate in the government must hold accountable those belonging to them who are suspected of corruption.”
Al-Sadr called for dissolving the armed factions and handing over their weapons to the popular Mobilization Units and liquidating the PMU of undisciplined elements.
