Iraq | Abul Gheit: Confronting corruption is complicated, requires continued cooperation

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit said that confronting corruption is extremely complicated and requires continued cooperation, pointing out that this dangerous phenomenon poses a threat to stability.

“This conference is an important opportunity to fight corruption and recover money,” Abul Gheit said on Wednesday in a speech at the start of a conference to recover corruption-looted funds.

“The most important achievement is an Arab anti-corruption agreement in 2010,” he said, adding that “the Arab League pays great importance to fighting corruption and coordinating common positions.”

“Confronting corruption is very complicated and requires continued cooperation, and I am convinced that Arab cooperation is stifling the corruption,” he said.

“All thanks to the ministries and bodies working to fight corruption and recover looted funds,” he concluded, adding that “the Arab League stands with all institutions working to fight corruption and recover funds.”

The International Conference on the Recovery of Looted Funds in Iraq was launched in Baghdad on Wednesday morning with broad international participation.
