Le Drian: My visit to Algeria aims to enhance trust between the two countries

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian stressed on Wednesday that his visit to Algeria aims to enhance confidence between the two countries in light of the full sovereignty of each country.

Le Drian said, “I was honored to meet Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and it was important for me to come to Algeria on a working visit.”

The minister stressed that Algeria and France have deep ties that are energized by human relations between the two countries, adding, “I conveyed to the Algerian president Paris’ desire to work to thaw the ice and the misunderstanding between the two countries.”

The minister stated that “during his conversation with the Algerian president, focus was placed on cooperation, which is translated by the launch of an actual dialogue as partners in files related to the security of the two countries,” and he hoped that “the dialogue that we started today will contribute to the return of political relations between the two governments at the beginning of the new year, away from the differences of the past.”
