Iraq’s President Barham Salih met the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.
Politics and recent developments in Iraq were discussed during the meeting. The two sides stressed the need to ensure security and stability in Iraq and work towards having a further dialogue between all parties to find effective solutions.
“Our country’s circumstances call for calming tensions and engaging in a sincere, serious dialogue addressing the country’s political crisis to chart out the political future for Iraq,” Salih said.
The country’s supreme national interest must be above all other considerations, he said, adding that civil and social peace must be enhanced by taking all the needed measures to safeguard Iraq.
