UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was the first to deliver a keynote address at the World Leader’s Summit, saying that humanity has long since run down the clock on climate change.
“It’s one minute to midnight on that doomsday clock and we need to act now.” The co-host said addressing the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland, on Monday.
“We can get real on coal, cars, cash, and trees” he said, adding “We have the technology to deactivate that ticking doomsday device.”
Johnson compared the climate crisis to a doomsday device featured in a James Bond movies shot on set in Glasgow.
“You all have the power together to be better, to remember that in your words you have the weapons that can save us or sell us out. You don’t need my pain or my tears to end the crisis. We are not just victims of this crisis, we are resilient agents of hope.”
